We received a tour of our State Capitol Building. Pennoyer School District 79 residences span two Illinois Senatorial Districts. We had the privilege of meeting with both Senator Kotowski and Senator Mulroe at the Capitol Building. We were also joined by Representative McAuliffe who spent time answering student questions in the House Chamber. Thanks to Representative McAuliffe, we were recognized by the House and we received applause from the entire House of Representatives.

About Pennoyer
- Pennoyer Superintendent
- Pennoyer School proudly educates children from parts of Norridge, Harwood Heights, and unincorporated Norwood Park Township. During the 1830's, the Pennoyer family came from new England and settled in what is now known as Norridge. The land they settled laid between what is now East River Road and Cumberland Avenue. In 1838, members of the community met at the home of John Pennoyer to discuss the plans for the development of a school. The school began in 1839, in Pennoyer's home. In 1954 it was decided to build a new school at the corner of Cumberland and Foster Avenue. A major addition was added in 2001. The school district proudly educates children in grades PK-8.

7th and 8th grade Springfield trip was a HUGE success!
Thank you to Ms. Peters and Ms. Clarke for organizing and coordinating this special learning event! Thank you to our parent chaperones for supporting Pennoyer learning on this overnight adventure: Mr. Biondo, Mrs. Bucholz, Mr. Diatte, Mrs. Durante, Mrs. Kubica, Mr. Lopez, Mr. Michaels, Mr. Neri, Mrs. Stocchetti
Please READ MORE on POSTEROUS to read more information about what the students learned and experienced!
The trip was a huge success. This is the first year that Ms. Peters received a blank report from the overnight security officer at the hotel! Our students displayed well-mannered behavior the entire trip. Several students received 'High Fives' today for exemplary behavior, such as including 'left out' peers in groups, turning in a found wallet with cash in it, assisting an elderly woman at the Arch, to name a few.
As a recap, the 7th and 8th graders toured Springfield and St. Louis on April 14th and 15th. Th
ey stepped back into the 1830’s while visiting New Salem, a reconstructed village where Abraham Lincoln lived during his early adulthood. The students paid their respects at Lincoln’s tomb (who was shot on April 14th and passed away on April 15th), World War II Memorial, Korean War memorial, and Vietnam War Memorial. Students traveled to the top of the St. Louis Arch, passed bills as members of Congress at the Magic House, explored at the St. Louis Science Museum, and viewed Sea Rex, an Omnimax film. The Springfield St. Louis trip was a huge success thanks to our wonderful teachers, students, parents and elected officials! Together we continue to Educate the Minds of Tomorrow.
