About Pennoyer

Pennoyer School proudly educates children from parts of Norridge, Harwood Heights, and unincorporated Norwood Park Township. During the 1830's, the Pennoyer family came from new England and settled in what is now known as Norridge. The land they settled laid between what is now East River Road and Cumberland Avenue. In 1838, members of the community met at the home of John Pennoyer to discuss the plans for the development of a school. The school began in 1839, in Pennoyer's home. In 1954 it was decided to build a new school at the corner of Cumberland and Foster Avenue. A major addition was added in 2001. The school district proudly educates children in grades PK-8.

Picnic Celebration

Students ate lunch outside today in celebration of creating a positive school environment.  All year students have been working on being respectful, responsible, and safe.  The student body as a whole earned "high fives" by exhibiting good character.  In honor of their hard work, we held a picnic lunch!

A Love of Music Shared With Our Third Graders

Students in grade three were visited by John Blasucci, member of the Dennis DeYoung Band, (STYX).  Besides being a performer, he creates and compose for many commercials.  John shared the process in which musical pieces are composed to give you desired sounds.  John worked with students to create music for a car chase.  Follow the videos and listen for the build up (layers of music tracks put together) of sounds to help one visualize the speeding cars.

Italian Class Goes to Dinner

Eighth grade students in Ms. DiVita's Italian class prepared menus and set the table for an Italian feast.  Students were to order a meal speaking in Italian.  The servers were only to speak and write in Italian.  Students did a fantastic job and had a fun time doing so.

Digital Day is coming to Pennoyer

Tomorrow instruction in all classes for all students will have a digital theme!

Principal Susan Miceli's brainchild, inspired by http://www.digitallearningday.org/, will take off on May 24, 2012 at historic Pennoyer School. Motivated by "best instructional practices" and engaged learning, Mrs. Miceli and the outstanding Pennoyer faculty and staff will jump into and out of "comfort zones" by taking instructional risks in some classes, by allowing students to "BYOD" bring their own technology devices (i.e. smart phones, tablets, laptops, etc.).

Other classrooms will benefit from the technology resources at the school. Thanks to funding from the PTC (Parent Teacher Council) and the Board of Education and the Norwood Park Township Trustees and other partnerships, Pennoyer students are able to learn with modern day tools that support and enrich daily learning activities!
